Learning support
Learning support is available to students K-6 with a wide range of additional needs, regardless of whether or not students have a diagnosis. The role of the Learning and Support Teacher is diverse and covers:
- the coordination and planning of Special Provisions for external tests such as NAPLAN,
- supporting staff to make adjustments and modifications to meet students needs in the classroom, including therapeutic devices and assistive technology
- overseeing the timetables and allocation of School Learning Support Officers (SLSO's)
- completing applications for Funding and/ or Special Class Placement
completing Health Care Plans for students with medical conditions - training parent and community volunteers in sight word, guided reading and remedial reading program "Multilit"
- assisting students experiencing difficulty managing their behaviour
completing risk assessments and behaviour management plans - supporting students in transition to school or to high school
working with individual students and small groups - liaising with Principal, School counsellor and with consent other agencies.
Multilit
Multilit is a researched based program designed by staff at Macquarie University in Sydney for students struggling to acquire aspects of reading for Years 2-6. It focuses on the explicit teaching of phonics, sight words and comprehension. It is presented on a 1:1 basis for approximately 5-10 mins per day.
School counsellor
We have School Counsellor services at our school 2.5 days per fortnight. The School Counsellor is available to complete a variety of assessments, liaise with other agencies and prepare reports. The School Counsellor is available for counselling of students on school related matters.
